The behavioral school of management is the approach to management thought that is concerned with human psychology, motivation and leadership. This school considered the human relations movement as well as modern behaviorism. Human relations movement Human relations movement treated satisfaction of psychological needs as the primary management concern. The researches of this group concluded that the psychological needs of individuals have a significant impact on group performance and that employees often misstate their concern. The reasonable satisfaction of the needs and desires leads to greater output. Modern behaviorism The human relations approach has evolved into modern behaviorism. It is the current stage of evolution of the behavioral school of management, which treats fulfillment of emotional needs as a means of achieving other economic goals. Behavioral scientists often criticized classical management theory and scientific management. They said that jobs had not been specialized, people were underutilized, and managers had exercised too much control and had prevented employees from making decisions they were competent to make. Modern behaviorists say employees needs challenging work. This placed increased pressure on management to be responsive to change and to provide an environment designed to meet human needs.
