My Flat

We have a nice flat in a new block of flats. Our flat is on the fourth floor. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat. The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. The bedroom is smaller than the living-room and not so light. In this room there are two beds with a bedside-table between them. In the left-hand corner there is a dressing-table with a big mirror. The third room is my study. It is not large but very cosy. It has a writing-table and an armchair before it. In the right hand corner there is a bookcase full of books, magazines and newspapers. Near it there is a sofa with some cushions. In my opinion, the study is the best room in our flat. But the warmest place in our flat is the kitchen, I think — the place where the whole family gathers every evening not only to have supper together, but also to speak and rest.

Grammar theme: Степени сравнения прилагательных.

Имена прилагательные в английском языке образуют две степени сравнения: сравнительную (The Comparative Degree) и превосходную (The Superlative Degree).

1. Односложные и некоторые двусложные прилагательные образуются путем прибавления к форме прилагательного суффикса –er.

2. Превосходная степень образуется путем прибавления суффикса – est.

3. Большинство двусложных прилагательных, а также прилагательных, состоящих из трех и более слогов, образуют сравнительную степень при помощи слова more, а превосходную – most.

Некоторые двусложные прилагательные образуются при помощи прибавления суффикса –er, - est или слов more, most (clever, common, cruel, gentle, pleasant, polite, quite, simple, stupid)

Narrow-narrower, narrowest/more narrow, most narrow.

The full name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The United Kingdom is situated on the British Isles. Their total area is over 314 000 sq. km. The western coast of Great Britain is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. The eastern coast is washed by the North Sea.

Great Britain consists of four main parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

There are no high mountains in Great Britain. Ben Nevis is the highest mountain (1343m).

The Thames and the Severn are the deepest and the longest of the British rivers. Some other rivers are the Mersey, the Trent, the Tyne, the Clyde and the Bristol Avon.
